The Silent Disconnect: Our latest report
shows how prevalent
loneliness is in
your workplace
Loneliness is the invisible issue affecting employees and it needs to be addressed
Workplace loneliness affects performance, which directly impacts productivity. No business can thrive if its employees aren’t engaged — and there’s more than enough evidence now that proves how loneliness negatively impacts businesses.
In fact, we found that loneliness is much more prolific than most people realise. Our research found that 2 in 3 employees feel lonely at least some of the time, with 63% feeling isolated, 60% lacking companionship, and 57% saying they feel left out.
Workplaces that don’t address loneliness are at risk of further alienating their people and compromising their business’s performance. But the harm is far more personal. Alarmingly, loneliness has been likened to the same mortality rate as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
But the good news is, leaders can affect change with their behaviour through meaningful time connecting with their team, and by being conscious of making space to invite conversation and connection.
